ALBATROSS: a robotised system for high-throughput electrolyte screening via automated electrolyte formulation, coin-cell fabrication, and electrochemical evaluation

Digital Discovery, 5, 1522-1530 (2026)

Research question

How can electrolyte formulations be tested in reproducible coin cells with less manual assembly and measurement work?

Key result

ALBATROSS integrated electrolyte preparation, coin-cell assembly and electrochemical testing for up to 48 cells without manual intervention. Li∥NCM811 tests showed a discharge-capacity relative standard deviation of 1.3%.

Research contribution

The KAIST team developed and validated the hardware, software and data workflow. Dong-Hwa Seo contributed the concept, methodology and supervision, with LG Energy Solution collaborators contributing resources and methodology.
